My time with First Bite was a truly formative experience. What makes the groups so special is the sense of collectivity Rebecca cultivates. No one is made to feel more important than anyone else because everyone’s role is vital – from sourcing costumes and props to organising ticket sales and promotional material, we all pitched in and relied on one another. Weekly rehearsals bookended by catching up on each other’s news and improv games were a great bonding exercise and every year we felt more like a family by the time opening night rolled around.

I vividly remember watching a group of my fellow cast members seamlessly transform on stage into a human pyramid horse-drawn carriage, with only a couple of strategically placed spinning umbrellas and a top hat for props. For me that image represents all that’s great about First Bite – mutual support, ingenuity, and a lot of fun!

Rebecca is a wonderful teacher and role model. Patient, passionate, and dedicated to her craft, she consistently brought out the best in us. It was a privilege to be taught by her and I’m delighted to count her as a friend all these years on.
